As I could not find a map of Finland’s rail network, I have created a transport map for a “new” country again. It shows all regular passenger train lines in Finland. I have applied a similar design as for the newest Germany and Denmark map. However, I had to adapt the distinction between the different contour sizes. It takes the rather low train density of the Finnish Railways into account.
I faced similar difficulties as by creating the Norway map. There are extensive differencies in the network and stop densitiy within the country. In the metropolitan area of Helsinki, there are multiple parallel suburban lines, whereas in the north only a couple of trains per day are operated. This is why I used the opportunity to add depictions of some places of interest in the cities.
This is my first transport map to include two national languages: Finnish and Swedish. I tried to include the Swedish city names as well. The name in the respective major language is put first. However, almost all regions served by trains have finnisch as major language. Exceptions are Jakobstad and Ekenäs. As I do not speak Finnish at all, please be lenient on possible mistakes. Please feel free to report mistakes if you discover any.
Be aware that the transport map takes the current timetable of VR into account, which is valid until April 2022. There might be changes.
Please also make sure to have a look at the newer version of this map.
